Writer's picture: NEWSNEWS

In 2019, a former police station at 45 Church Street endured a healthy reinvention. The three-story building underwent a remarkable transformation, emerging as a block of 9 contemporary apartments, reaching full completion in February 2021.

The renovation project, initiated in December 2019, unfortunately faced unexpected challenges and setbacks brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, despite this, the property now boasts modernity in the form of new apartments while retaining historical roots.

Featuring 39 ensuite bedrooms, the flats' boast sleek interiors with light grey walls, modern joinery, and pre-finished details such as skirts and door frames, for the very first time for DBR, a part of the renovation journey.

The surrounding car park and landscaping enhance the property's appeal being newly tarmacked, with blending seamlessly into the conservation area.

Notably, the building now serves as homes, providing shelter and support for young people, long-term leased by YMCA, since March 2023. Fully secured with electric gates, the property symbolizes a commitment to community welfare.

One can still discern traces of the building's past, such as the original location of the staircase leading from the main street, now replaced by an apartment window. This subtle reminder underscores the property's evolution over time.

Step inside, and visitors are greeted by contemporary designs, including dark-wood doors, laminate flooring, and modern amenities. Bedrooms exude comfort, while ensuite bathrooms feature white vanities, chrome showers, and glossy grey tiling.

Despite the challenges, the property's value has risen significantly since its purchase, reflecting a 30.7% increase equating to a 5.7% rise each year. With a gross income of £165k per annum, the project stands as a testament to the viability of investing in revitalizing old buildings.

The revamped police station in Sutton stands as a testament to the town's grit and adaptability. It's proof that with determination and foresight, even the oldest structures can find renewed purpose. More Photos
