Revisiting Our Bootle Scheme

Writer's picture: NEWSNEWS

Back in September 2017, the historic Bootle docklands witnessed a remarkable rebirth as DBR Builders (NW) Ltd, with an idea to restore and repurpose, undertook the task of transforming the derelict former community pub into a thriving hub of accomodation.

The building, initiallly known in the early 1900's as The Old Millers Castle, before becoming the popular Dockers Hook throughout the 60's into the late 1900's, stood neglected and misused for years, a mere shell of its once vibrant self and community name. But, by April 2018, the renovation was complete, and unveiled to the community to no-longer be the local eyesore.

Bootle, historically significant for its maritime connections, has long been home to close iconic landmarks such as Prince Albert Docks. The building, situated on 74 Regent Road, is accessible from Liverpool city-center, both Anfield and Goodison Park stadiums, and more recently the build and erection of Everton Stadium which is also on Regent Road, The M&S Bank Arena for concerts and events, Aintree Racecourse (home to the Grand National Steeplechase), and the scenic beaches at Crosby and Formby - making this one of the most convient locations for downtime whenever in town.

The transformation of The Dockers Hook was not just about salvaging old stock but also about adding and restoring value to the community. Comprising 20 rooms, each equipped with en-suite facilities, this property should be viewed as a symbol of inspiration and renewal. The restoration work not only breathed new life into a derelict structure but also provided a comfortable, modern living space for individuals and families.

The building, once an eyesore, has an accommodation area spanning almost 500sq.m.

It now boasts three fully equipped kitchens, all adorned with high-quality finishes. The kitchens feature floor-to-ceiling fridge freezers, washing machines, dishwashers, tumble dryers, ovens, hobs, microwaves, kettles, and every conceivable home comfort. The attention to detail in the refurbishment process reflects DBR's commitment to creating a homey and welcoming feel.

The revitalized building not only serves as comfortable accommodation but also plays a huge role in the community's resurgence. Its proximity to major tourist attractions only entices interest and appeal.

Looking back on Dockside Lodge as a project, this was more than just a scheme, as this helped us birth our identity as a business, by transforming derelict and once vibrant memory-filled spaces into homes, once again. Dockside Lodge was completed in April 2018 by DBR Builders (NW) Ltd on behalf of a private investment company and the building now currently serves as a lodge as told in the name. More photos
